Raven Johnson shot 5-7 and 3-3 for behind the arc for 14 points, and Her fellow Georgian Sania Feagin grabbed 6 rebounds and added on 4 points in the same game. They helped lift South Carolina back to the Final Four and kept their undefeated dreams alive with a 79-75 win in the Elite 8 over Indiana. These ladies have been key to South Carolina’s season as they look to remain undefeated. However, just a few years ago they were dominating the state in high school basketball.
Raven Johnson is a 5’9 sophomore, in high school, she attended Westlake High in Atlanta. She was at the school from 2018 to 2021 and she won a state championship every year she was in high school! She won state in 2018, 2019, and 2020, all being 7A championships. In 2021, Westlake was reclassified to 6A, but this didn’t stop Raven Johnson and company from winning the 6A state championship. She had so many accolades in high school I can’t mention them all but here are a few; Nasmith player of the year in 2020, 2 time Miss Georgia Basketball in 2020 and 2021, and WBCA player of the year in 2020. She ended her high school career ranked as the 2nd overall player in the class of 2021.
After joining South Carolina Johnson was red-shirted her freshman year. Raven Johnson had a breakout year in 22-23 making All-SEC freshman team and helping South Carolina to the Final Four. This season she is averaging 8 points 5 rebounds and 5 assists per game. She has become a player that Coach Stanley can’t afford to keep on the bench with her playing 32 minutes in the Elite 8 matchup. She still has much more to come in her college career.
Sania Feagin joined South Carolina the same year as Raven Johnson. She is 6’3 and in high school she attended Forest Park High in Ellenwood. At Forest Park she won the 2020 6A state championship. She was Georgia Gatorade player of the year in 2020 and was a McDonald’s All American. She was only two spots behind Johnson as the 4th overall player in ESPN’s 2021 rankings.
At South Carolina she made her debut as a freshman vs Mississippi State. She had many promising performances in her freshman year including leading the bench in rebounds vs LSU. She continued this into her sophomore year, like scoring 11 of the team’s final 23 points vs Costal Carolina (she also had a career high 3 blocks). However, injuries limited her to just 27 games. This season she has played in 36 games averaging 7 points and 4 assists a game on an incredible 55 percent shooting. She also has much left of her in her college career.
Raven Johnson and Sania Feagin have held it down all season for South Carolina, and as they enter the Final Four Friday vs North Carolina State, we will be cheering them on.
