Yesterday was a big day when it comes to baseball, and it has nothing to do with Paul Skenes debut or Ronald Acuna’s 461 foot home run. Rather, many semifinals in the beautiful state were yesterday. Many teams punched their ticket to state, and many more have to go to a winner go home game. Here is a quick recap on yesterday’s semifinal games-

7A Yesterday Lowndes High School beat North Paulding 10-0, and then 8-5, to send North Paulding home. Lowndes has been one of the favorites to win 7A all season, and have only lost one game in the playoffs (2-1 to Harrison). While North Paulding have been a cinderella after beating two favorites including Parkview and North Gwinnett, both of which were sweeps. The other side of the bracket was much closer, starting off with another cinderella in Grayson beating Brookwood 3-2 in game 1. However, Brookwood turned the tables in game 2 shutting out Grayson in a 4-0 win. Their win or go home game 3 will be Monday at 6.

6A It Started out we bang with favorites Houston County getting stunned by Pope 7-4 and then a pitcher off with Pope winning 1-0. Pope advance to their 3rd straight state championship after losing last year. Meanwhile, Etowah took care of business beating Blessed Trinity 1-2 and then 4-0 with a big chance to win the state championship next Saturday.

5A Will be a highly anticipated matchup as Loganville first took care of work beating Kell in a sweep 5-2, and then 8-2 in game two. On the other side of the bracket Cartersville was dominant all around winning by 10 in both games, 11-1 and 10-0 in its two semifinal games.

4A Starr’s Mill defeated North Oconee in a thrilling game 1, winning 12-8 before dominating game two winning 13-1. While on the other side it got interesting, Cherokee Buff took the first game 14-4. However, Holy Innocents got game two 6-3. Game 3 will be Monday.

3A Another Oconee team went out after Oconee County lost to Harlem 6-1 and then 5-3. Which set up a championship with Calvary Day who won 12-1 and then a pitch off, 2-0 win in its two games.

2A North Cobb Christian booked its ticket winning 11-1 and 3-2 over Rockmart. They will have to wait on an opponet until Monday as Mount Paran Christian and Appling County split game 1 and two 2-1 and then Mount Paran winning 7-1 in game two.

Division 1 and 2 of 1A, The Division Two championship will be Lanier County and Charlton County. Lanier beat swept Bowdon and Charlton beat Lake Oconee. While in Division 1, Will be between Prince Avenue Christian and Tallulah Falls. PAC beat Crawford in two games and Tallulah defeated King’s Ridge 8-7 and 8-3 to advance to the state championship.
