With the 2024-25 college football season right around the corner, it means that the 2021 recruiting class is now entering their senior season. The 2021 class was a good one for Georgia, it included 4 5-stars, 18 4 stars, and many more stars. As we all know, rankings do not matter, however, let’s look back at the top 10 recruits if the 2021 class (rankings are by 247 Sports).
10. TJ Ferguson- 4 Star (Peach County High School) IOL The 6’4 offensive lineman played his high school ball at Peach County and also played tight end. Ferguson committed to Alabama over Florida State and UGA. In his first season, Ferguson was redshirted and only played in one game. He played in 5 games in 2022, most of his game time came in a win over Louisiana Monroe, he also played in his first SEC game against Vanderbilt. Last Season he started his first game against USF, and played in all 12 games for the Crimson Tide. After the season, he announced that he was going to hit the portal. He committed to Florida State, a team that recruited him hard out of high school. He is entering his redshirt junior for Florida State this fall.
9. Nate Wiggins- 4 Star (Westlake) CB Wiggins played both sides of the ball in high school, but became a standout corner for the Lions. He was originally committed to LSU before flipping to Clemson. In his first season at Clemson, Wiggins played in 11 games including big games like vs 5. Georgia. His Sophomore year was a breakout year for Wiggins, he was a first team All-ACC selection, was one pass breakup short of a Clemson Sophomore record (he had 12), and had the 2nd longest pick 6 in Clemson history in the ACC Championship, as Clemson would go on to win the ACC. His junior year was even better, Wiggins was a first team All-ACC selection again, and recorded a pick 6 against FAU as the Tigers had another good year. After the season, he declared for the NFL Draft. He was selected 29th overall to the Baltimore Ravens. He will play in Baltimore this upcoming year on Sundays.
8. Jordan Hancock- 4 star (North Gwinnett) CB Hancock was a top 10 cornerback recruit in the 2021 class, and he helped North Gwinnett to a state title. As for his recruiting, he pulled a reverse Nate Wiggins as he was originally committed to Clemson before flipping to Ohio State. In his true freshman year, Hancock played in 7 games for the Buckeyes. Unfortunately, he suffered a hamstring injury after only 6 games in 2022. Last season, he played in every game, and was the team leader in both interceptions and forced fumbles. He will return for his senior season to Ohio State, and will be looking to be one of the top corners in the nation.
7. Dylan Fairchild- 4 star (West Forsyth) IOL Fairchild was a two-sport star in high school as off the gridiron he was a state champion wrestler. As for football, he played his high school ball at West Forsyth before committing to UGA over Auburn. In 2021 he played in 1 game for UGA as they took home the national championship. His redshirt freshman he would play in 5 games as UGA went back to back. This past season, he broke out playing in 14 games and starting 10 games in another great season. He will look to play out another big season in Athens this upcoming season.
6. Trevin Wallace- 4 star (Wayne County) LB Trevin Wallace was one of the best linebackers in Georgia throughout his high school years at Wayne County. He was originally committed to Boston College before decommitting. At that point, many assumed he would go to Auburn, however, Gus Malzahn’s firing ended up making him commit to Mark Stoops and Kentucky. He played in 12 games his freshman season, including against rival Florida in which he blocked and returned a field goal for a touchdown. His sophomore year he played in 12 games and played very well, recording 2 interceptions, 55 tackles, and 2.5 sacks. Last year, he started in all 12 games that he played in, and he balled out in them; he was 2nd on the team in tackles and had 8.5 tackles for loss. After the season, he declared for the NFL Draft. He was selected 72nd overall, and this fall will play for the Carolina Panthers.
5. Brock Vandergriff- 4 star (Prince Avenue Christian) QB Vandergriff played high school ball at PAC under his dad, and won a state title together in his senior year. He committed to play for the UGA Bulldogs after flipping from Oklahoma. His first two years he played as a reserve quarterback for the dawgs as they won back-to-back National Championships. His redshirt sophomore year was more the same after losing the QB battle to Carsen Beck. After appearing in 8 blowout games, Vandergriff hit the transfer portal. He has committed to play for the Kentucky Wildcats next season.
4. Smael Mondan- 5 star (Paulding County) LB Mondan played at Paulding County where he was one of the top linebackers in the entire country. Many wanted the talented linebacker, but UGA came out on top over the likes of Tennessee and LSU. He would play in every game his freshman year as a reserve Defensive Back as the Bulldogs would go on to win the National Championship. The following year he started in every game he played in as the Bulldogs went all the way again. Last season, he was a coaches pick 2nd team All-SEC selection, and was 2nd on the team in tackles. He is returning to UGA for his senior season, and was selected to the Preseason All-SEC Team.
3. Nyland Green 5 Star (Newton) CB Green was the top defensive back prospect in the peach state and played his high school ball at Newton. He committed to Kirby Smart and UGA over Clemson and Auburn. He played in one game in his first year vs UAB. In his redshirt freshman year, he appeared in 10 games as he helped UGA to their 2nd straight National Title. Last season, he appeared in 13 games for UGA, and helped them to win the Orange Bowl. After the season, he entered the transfer portal. He committed to Purdue and will play for the Boilmakers this season.
2. Barrett Carter 5 Star (North Gwinnett) LB Barrett Carter was high school teammates with Jordan Hancock (number 8 on this list) at North Gwinnett High School. Together they helped lead North Gwinnett to a State Title, and was the nations top linebacker. He committed to Clemson to play with another player on this list (9. Nate Wiggins). He started a few games his freshman year, with his first start being against vs 23. Pitt. His following year he had a massive breakout year. He was a 4th team All American (Phil Steele), First Team All-ACC, third on the team in tackles, 5.5 sacks, and helped Clemson to the ACC Title. Last season he was 2nd team All ACC, 2nd on the team in tackles, and started every game. Him and teammate Khalil Barnes also became the first Clemson players since NFL Hall of Famer Brian Dawkins to record consecutive turnovers. He will be at Clemson for his senior season this year.
1. Amarius Mims 5 Star (Bleckley County) OT Mims was the top recruit in the peach state, and played and Beckley County High School. He committed to UGA along with many others on this list. He played in many games as a freshman including vs rivals Georgia Tech. He started in most games in his Sophomore year, as well as both Playoff games. This past season he started 6 games, missing some time due to injury as he helped lead UGA with one of the best offensive lines in the country. After the season, he declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He was selected 18th overall by the Bengals as he will get to block for Joe Burrow next season.
