This Saturday was the 4th and final day of the 2024 Corky Kell Dave Hunter Classic. It featured 4 matchups that all were interesting in their own way. Many great names were born and plays were made. Here is what happened in the 4 matchups:

Brookwood Vs Walton (10:00 A.M.)

Brookwood came into the game after their first losing season in 8 years. On the other side of things, Walton comes in after losing in the 7A state Championship. Brookwood dominated early, however, missed two field goals to keep the deadlock (one of which came after a Michael Barlow interception). Brookwood scored first after running back Brayden Tyson ran in a 1 yard TD. Walton responded on the following drive with their 3 star running back Lucas Farrington getting in the endzone. Walton dominated the 2nd quarter highlighted by a 59 yard touchdown pass from Kaeden Gilstrap to Christian Ward. At the half Walton was up 23-7. Brookwood was not going to go away cut the lead to 2 after back-back TDs by Brayden Tyson. With Brookwood gaining momentum, Walton broke Brookwood spirits with Lucas Farrington getting his 2nd TD to make it 30-21 in the 4th. Walton’s defense would help close it out as Walton would win 30-21. Some notable performances from the game are Brayden Tyson (Brookwood), who ran for 168 yards and 3 scores, and Walton’s Christian Ward, who had 66 yards and a touchdown.

Alpharetta vs Houston County (1:00 P.M.)

Houston County came out hungry and dominated the first half behind Gavin Kurpis’s 3 first half touchdowns. Memphis QB commit AJ Hill had 2 touchdowns and 210 yards at the half. Alpharetta played with two QBs in the first half Jude Keating and Matt Schletty both taking snaps. By the end of the half, Houston County led 43-10. In the 2nd half Gavin Kurpis would punch in two more TDs. Alpharetta would fight hard but it was ultimately not enough as Houston County would win 57-10. Two players that played well were Houston County’s Isaiah Mitchell, who had 116 yards receiving, and Alpharetta’s Jude Keating, who had 131.

North Gwinnett vs McEachern (4:00 P.M.)

Next up was a rivalry between North Gwinnett vs McEachern. Both defenses showed up early with multiple 3 and outs between the two. North Gwinnett broke through late in the first via a Ryan Hall pass to Nic Bookman. Zah’lyn Bell would get McEachern on the board on the next possession, rushing in the score. McEachern would not make the extra point and North Gwinnett would extend their lead after Stanford commit Tommy Lafayette ran one in from 19 yards out. They would make the extra point a be up 14-6 at the half. North Gwinnett would come out in the 2nd half with a field goal, and then added another touchdown from Hall to Bookman. They would convert the two-point conversion to make it 25-6 with a little under 3 minutes in the 3rd quarter. McEachern would not go away after they got 11 points of their own behind a 33 yard Bell pass to Zavion Harris and a field goal. Similarly to Walton, with McEachern gaining momentum, Hall would find Erik Ronning for a 62 yard touchdown. On the next drive, Rutgers commit Braxton Kyle would strip Zah’lyn Bell and Jalen Gist would return it to make it 39-17 North Gwinnett. The game would end a few minutes later with two stand out players being McEachern’s Nalin Scott, who had 44 yards receiving and made an incredible catch in the 2nd quarter, and North Gwinnett’s Tommy Lafayette, who ran for 79 yards and a score.

Douglas County vs Cedar Grove (7:00 P.M.)

Both teams fought hard in the first quarter Douglas County’s James Johnson rushing in a 33 yard score near the end to give them a lead. Douglas County would score 3 touchdowns in the 2nd quarter, the first coming from QB D.J. Bordeaux. Followed by a Zamarcus Lindley rushing touchdown, and 4 Star WR Aaron Gregory getting his first of the season. The 2nd half would have a few turnovers to start, first a Douglas County fumble, followed by Cedar Grove throwing an Interception. Douglas County would add to more touchdowns to bring the score to 42-0. Cedar Grove would get a touchdown when QB Josiah Moore found WR Cleveland Sutherland on a deep 54 yard ball.
