Ryan Hill and Nic Bookman

It is crazy to think, but we are now half way through the high school football season. With that being said, here is our new top 10 teams in the state.

10. North Cobb 6A 6-0

The Warriors are off to a hot 6-0 start to their 2024 season. Led by senior QB Nick Grimstead, North Cobb has had impressive wins over McEachern (45-33), Cass (43-14), and Walton (42-14). They have a shutdown defense, starting with Georgia Tech commit Kam Collins at Nose Tackle. North Cobb plays 4 more region games vs Marietta, at Cherokee, at Etowah, and vs Wheeler.

9 Grayson 6A 4-1

After starting off the season getting upset by Collins Hill 20-19, Grayson has looked nothing other then dominant, first staring by beating Alabama power Thompson 15-14. They would proceed to win their next 3 games by a combined score of 144-14. They are led by their star linebacker duo of Tyler Atkinson (51 tackles) and Anthony Davis (35 tackles), and Junior QB Travis Burgess (708 yards 8 TDs in 4 games). They will end off their season at Newton, vs Heritage, at Rockdale County, at South Gwinnett, and vs Archer.

8 Douglas County 6A 4-1

The Tigers came out the gate hot, defeating powerhouses Cedar Grove and Jonesboro 42-7 and 48-8 respectively. After two more wins, Douglas County played host to Buford, after a great game Buford pulled away and won 31-14. The Tigers are led by 3 star QB DJ Bordeaux and his wide receiver duo of Devin Carter and Aaron Gregory. They will play at Colombia, at East Coweta, vs Westlake, at Chapel Hill, and vs Carrollton, to end their season.

7 Thomas County Central 5A 5-0

The defending 6A champs have had just as good a start to this season as last. So far they have not had a game within 30 points, however, they play Lee County (6 on this list) tomorrow. Led by their shut down defense and electrifying offense, the Jackets will look to go back-to-back in a very difficult 5A. Their remaining schedule (other then Lee County) includes Veterans, Northside, Houston County, and Coffee (defending 5A champs).

6 Lee County 5A 5-0

Lee County is one of the biggest powerhouses in Georgia, and this season has been no different. After starting off beating Warner Robins 45-28, Lee County has been dominate and has not been within 20 points in 3 out of their next 4 games (only one being a 12 point win over another powerhouse in Colquitt County). Their 4 star running back Ousmane Kromah has been nothing sort of incredible, averaging 121 yards/game so far this season. Defensively, Greg Batson has been incredible, causing and recovering two fumbles and having 6 QB hurries. Their remaining schedule will be vs Thomas County Central, vs Coffee, at Veterans, at Northside, and vs Houston County.

5 Collins Hill 6A 5-0

Starting off our top 5 is Collins Hill. The Eagles started their season upsetting Grayson 20-19 and they have carried that momentum since. Other big wins include beating Woodward Academy 21-14, Cedar Grove 44-13, and Parkview 27-10. They run a two QB system between Junior AJ Bush and Sophomore Makyree Cross. Their leading receiver has been senior Alijah Patillo who has 223 yards and 2 TDs on the season. Their defense is led by two of the top defensive prospects in the state, with Deuce Geralds (who is now Collins Hill’s all time sack leader as a junior) and Katrell Webb. Their final 5 games are against Mountain View, at Buford, vs Mill Creek, at Dacula, and at Discovery.

4 North Gwinnett 6A 5-0

Clocking in at number 4 is North Gwinnett. They have an impressive strength of schedule, including wins over McEachern 39-17, Colquitt County 14-3, and Mill Creek 37-34. Their star QB, Ryan Hill, is a Georgia Tech baseball commit, but has been dominant on the gridiron. So far, he has thrown for 1024 yards and 12 TDs to 0 interceptions. Defensively, they are led by ’27 star Jake Godfree, who has totaled an impressive 57 tackle this season. They will end off their season playing at Berkmar, vs Peachtree Ridge, at Meadowcreek, vs Norcross, and at Duluth.

3 Buford 6A 4-1

Buford has been they most dominate team in Georgia over the past few decades. However, they came into this season losing 3 5 stars (Dylan Raiola, KJ Bolden, and Eddrick Houston). They lost their first game of the season 13-10 to defending 7A champs Milton, and since has not lost. Led by Nebraska commit Dayton Raiola at QB, Buford has really targeted the ground game with Louisville commit Justin Baker, FAU commit Ethan Ervin, and ’26 4 star Tyriq Green, totaling over 600 yards between the 3 (Green also missed two games). On the other side of the ball, Ethan Houser has been a lockdown corner while USC commit Bryce Perry-Wright has been unstoppable on the D-line. Their remaining schedule will be vs Collins Hill, vs Dacula, vs Central Gwinnett, at Mountain View, and at Mill Creek.

2 Carrollton 6A 6-0

Our preseason number 1 has had an incredible season so far. They have defeated Georgia powers such as Woodward Academy and Gainesville, and must recently traveled to Alabama and defeated Parker 48-26. At the center, 5 Star QB Juju Lewis has been unstoppable in his senior season throwing for 1377 yards, 21 TDs to 3 interceptions. This is complimented by Kimauri Farmer who has ran for 580 yards and 6 TDs. They even have an elite defense led by Texas commit Zelus Hicks and Alabama commit DB Barney. Their remaining schedule will be vs Westlake, vs Chapel Hill, at East Coweta, and at Douglas County.

1 Milton 5A 5-0

Our number 1 spot belongs to who else but the defending state champs Milton. Milton has been arguably the best team in the country this season beating nationally top 25 American Heritage 37-28, Buford 13-10, and Alpharetta 58-0. Miami commit Luke Nickel has thrown for 1114 yards and 9 TDs this season, most of which to his Florida State commit CJ Wiley and UGA tight end commit Ethan Barbour. Also, T.J. Lester has been impressive, rushing for 491 yards and 9 TDs this season. However, defense wins championships, and this defense is impressive all around with Hayden Tumminia leading the team with 42 tackles. Their final few games will be at Seckinger, at Lanier, at Gainesville, vs Johns Creek, and vs Roswell.

The other 15 teams in our top 20 are 11. Mill Creek, 12. Langston Hughes, 13. Marist, 14. Gainesville, 15. Valdosta, 16. Coffee, 17. Lowndes, 18. North Oconee, 19. Sandy Creek, 20. Cedartown.
