This past Friday, two top 5 schools faced off in a must-see matchup in Gwinnett County. The two teams in question were 3. Buford and 5. Collins Hill. The two powerhouses have produced many division 1 players over the last few years, and this season is no different, with Collins Hill having highly rated players Deuce Geralds and Katrell Webb, and Buford having highly ranked players Bryce Perry-Wright and Jadon Perlotte.
The game started off with punting from both sides. Then, Collins Hill would break the deadlock after sophomore QB Makyree Cross found senior WR Alijah Patillo for a touchdown.
Buford would then go on multiple deep drives, however, Collins Hill’s defense did not break, forcing multiple 4th down stops.
Buford would get on the board at the end of the half after a Collins Hill goal line stand, stopping a sure touchdown. The two would go into the half with Collins Hill up 7-3.
After the half, something seemed to change at half for the Buford Wolves. They came out and after putting a field goal to start the half, Tyriq Green would pick off Collins Hill, which set up Buford with great field position. Tennessee commit Jordan Baker would run in a 15-yard touchdown 2 plays later.
After another stop, Nebraska commit Dayton Raiola would find Louisville commit Jordan Allen for a 63-yard touchdown. The touchdown would extend the Wolves lead to 21-7 and would stay that way until the end of the quarter.
The teams would exchange punts, with the Buford secondary in particular doing a great job in the 2nd half. Buford would score another touchdown with under 3 minutes to go, when Junior RB Dylan McCoy ran in the 1-yard score. The Wolves would miss the extra point, but they would get 1 more touchdown as 4-star athlete Tyriq Green (who got the interception earlier) would take what was supposed to be a meaningless end-of-game chew clock run 86 yards to the house.
Inspired by a great 2nd half, Buford would complete the comeback and win 34-7 over Collins Hill.
Buford improves to 5-1 (2-0 in region) as they host Dacula next Thursday at 7:30 P.M. While Collins Hill would lose their first game of the season and drop to 6-1 (2-1 in region) as they host Mill Creek next Thursday at 7:30 P.M.
