The Overtime Elite (OTE) is a high school basketball league in Atlantic Station. There are 8 teams in the OTE; Cold Hearts, Jelly Fam, City Reapers, Blue Checks, YNG Dreamerz, RWE, Fear of God, and the Diamond Doves. This weekend, they kicked off their 4th season, and here are some of standouts.

Jasper Johnson (RWE)- Johnson, a 5 star Kentucky commit, displayed many of the abilities that made him a 5 star on Saturday. On offense, he showed good shooting, and showed a solid playmaking ability. On the other side of the court, he did a good job guarding 5 star Meleek Thomas. In RWE’s game against the City Reapers, Jasper Johnson hit a clutch and 1 with 52.9 left to tie the game (they would end up loosing). He finished the game against the City Reapers with 20 points (on 50% shooting) and 7 assists, with a steal on top.

Meleek Thomas (City Reapers)- Thomas is a 5 star who recently announced his top 3 (Pitt, Arkansas, and UCONN). He is an a great offensive player who can be a 1A option, by being ball dominate and creating his own shots, or a 1B option, by playing off ball and getting good off ball looks from three. He finished with 18 points against RWE, and impressively shot 40% from three.

Jayden Wilkins (City Reapers)- Last season, Jayden Wilkins was one of the youngest on the court, but showed out and won the OTE’s best young player. This weekend, he showed a lot of development. He is still one of the youngest in the league and still played a great game. He showed coachable, and was one of the first players out on the court putting up shots, and he showed off that ability by going 50% from 3 and finishing with 9 points.

Keshawn Fisher (RWE)- Fisher showed off an all around scoring ability going 3-3 inside the arc and 4-9 outside the arc. He was able to find his spot on or off ball (even with two 5 stars on his team). He also displayed what all coaches love; all out hustle, on defense and offense. Late in the game against the Reapers, he got a clutch block on Tennessee commit Amari Evans, with under a minute to give RWE a chance to tie the game.

Amari Evans (City Reapers)- Evans committed to Tennessee Friday night, and showed off what makes him so good against RWE. For starters, he is defiantly the most all-around player at the OTE. On offense, he can create his own shots, and create shots for others. He is also a fast player the can help start fast breaks on offense. Defensively, he can guard any teams number 1 option, and posses a strong 6’4 frame. Against RWE, he finished with 20 points (10/10 from the free throw line), 5 assists, and 3 steals.

Eli Ellis (YNG Dreamerz)- The reigning OTE MVP is back for his senior season, and he is out for the championship. Ellis is an elite scorer, who can shoot from anywhere, this draws a crowd of defenders, which he exploits with his passing ability to set up teammates. He can also play off ball if needed as a spot-up shooter. Against the Cold Hearts on Saturday, he scored 26 points on 57% shooting (44% from three)!

Isaac Ellis (YNG Dreamerz)- He is Eli’s little brother, and his game has a lot of similarities to Eli’s. Isaac can shoot lights out, just like his brother, and also can take up point guard abilities when necessary. Like Eli, he can find create his own shots whenever he wants. He went off against the Cold Hearts, leading both teams in scoring with 27 points on 64% shooting (only two points were from free throws)!

Ashton Eldon (Cold Hearts)- Eldon is one of the most underrated players at the OTE. He is a great defensive players who (even at 6’10) can matchup against guards. Eldon can also get a few buckets for himself, and is not afraid to shoot jumpers. He had 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals, in 22 minutes against the Dreamerz.

Marcus Gillespie (Cold Hearts)- Gillespie is the definition of underdog. He is essentially the OTE version of a walk-on (went through a tryout), and still dominated on the court. He is a great defender, who was willing to guard anybody, including Eli Ellis (and did a good job). Gillespie was able to get buckets as well, finishing with 13 points (led the team at halftime) on 71.4% shooting (60% from three).
