Tomorrow kicks off the College Football Playoff Quarterfinals, and with that, many former Georgia High School players will have a chance to leave their mark on history. This is the final part of three articles for each game (Arizona State vs Texas and Boise State vs Penn State do not have many players, so they are combined together). So, let’s dive into ever
We start off with the game that kicks off first; Boise State vs Penn State. These two will face off in the Fiesta Bowl on New Year’s Eve at 7:30 P.M. on ESPN. Boise State has been one of the best teams in college football this year, however, they do not have any players on their active roster from Georgia! Thankfully, Penn State has two players from Georgia (3 if you count T.A. Cunningham who recently entered the transfer portal): Audavion Collins and Cam Wallace.
Audavion Collins is a 5’11, 180 pounds defensive back from Covington. He played at Newton High School, where he became a unanimous 3-star recruit in the class of 2022. He ended up committing to Mississippi State, but he did not see the field at all in his first season, and he entered the transfer portal. This is where he would end up in Happy valley and last season he appeared in 6 games. This season, Collins broke out and has become a very solid corner and caught his first interception against Maryland to help Penn State get into the Big 10 Championship.
Standing at 5’9, 200 pounds, Cam Wallace is a running back from Mount Vernon. He played at Montgomery County High School and was a 3-star recruit on all major recruiting sites in the 2023 class. He committed to the Nittany Lions despite taking visits to local Georgia Tech and Florida State. He did not appear in a game last season but has appeared in 3 games this season (vs West Virginia, Bowling Green, and Kent State). He also recorded his first touchdown vs Kent State.
As for Arizona State vs Texas, they will play on New Year’s Day at 1:00 P.M. in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. This game will feature a few homecomings for Arizona State players Jeff Clark and Tyler Laskaris, as well as Texas Longhorn Isaiah Bond.
Jeff Clark is a 6’1, 285 pounds defensive lineman at Arizona State. He played at McEachern High School at which he helped lead them to the state semi-finals in his Junior season. Clark has been an underdog story from the beginning, he started off as a 2-star recruit, committing to the Georgia State Panthers as a part of their 2019 class. He left his mark at GSU, recording 92 tackles and 9 sacks in his 3 seasons with the team. Prior to last season, he would enter the transfer portal as a 3-star recruit, committing to Louisville. He posted 14 tackles in his one season with the Cardinals and helped them to an ACC Championship game appearance. After the season, he would enter the transfer portal with one season of eligibility left. He committed to the Forks, where he has recorded 20 tackles and .5 a sack so far this season.
Tyler Laskaris stands at 5’10, 200 pounds and played his high school days at Fellowship Christian. He was unranked out of his school and committed to Arizona State in the class of 2024. This has been his true freshman season, but he has not appeared in any games.
Isaiah Bond is a 5’11, 180 pounds wide receiver from Buford High School. Bond was ranked as high as a top 60 recruit in the 2022 class and committed to Alabama. In his two years at Alabama, he caught 65 passes for 888 yards, including 5 touchdowns. Most notably, he caught a 33-yard, 4th down pass to beat rival Auburn. After Nick Saban’s retirement following Alabama’s College Football Playoff exit, Bond would hit the transfer portal. He was ranked as high as the number 1 WR in the portal (247 Sports). Bond would end up committing to the Longhorns. This season, Bond has dealt with injuries, but has still managed to catch 33 passes, for 532 yards, and 5 touchdowns. He did not play in the first round of the playoffs vs Clemson.
