Up until Thursday Caleb Wilson was the highest ranked uncommitted player in the class of 2025. However, this all changed when the Holy Innocents star announced his commitment on national television.
Wilson is a 6’10 forward/center with a long wingspan who has been on a tear his senior season. He is averaging 18.9 points per game and 11 rebounds per game (via MaxPreps), leading Holy Innocents to a hot start. The previously mentioned stats do not include his 28-point outing in a near upset of the number 1 team in the state, Grayson.
Make in December, Wilson announced that he would be picking between 3 schools: Kentucky, UNC, and Ohio State.
Let’s start with Ohio State. From the beginning of Wilson announcing his top 3, it felt like Ohio State was the odd man out. However, Wilson always spoke highly of the Buckeyes. In an interview with 247 Sports, Wilson said, “I really enjoyed my visit there (Ohio State), it was extremely fun and exciting.” Despite these words, Wilson felt differently than Columbus.
As for Kentucky, Wilson’s relationship with the Wildcats became complicated over the offseason when Coach Calipari left for Arkansas. However, from the beginning new coach Mark Pope made sure Wilson was a priority. Even a few weeks before his commitment it seemed certain that Wilson was going to be a Wildcat. Unfortunately, UNC made a late push for Wilson which was likely what ended up making the difference.
Wilson would end up committing to North Carolina on Thursday over the previously mentioned schools. Wilson has a good relationship with UNC head coach Hubert Davis and had these kind words to say about his future head coach in an interview with MSN, “he is a man of Faith, and we have a great connection.”
Wilson announced his commitment on Inside the NBA, joining a list of High School athletes who have announced their commitments on national television.
Wilson also had Central Florida and Tennessee in his top 5 before cutting his list to three.
