There might not be another team in the state that is having a better turnaround over the last few years than Notre Dame Academy (Duluth). The Wolfhounds are 14-9 and 6-0 in their region (region two 1A), taking home the region championship. This coming from a team that did not win a single game 3 years ago (MaxPreps)!
The change can first be directed at head of basketball operations and head coach Marshawn Hampton. Hampton, a former pro basketball player, has turned the program around in his two years from a 3-win team (the year before he got there), into an 8-win team last year, and now 14 wins and counting!
To go along with Hampton’s skills, he has been blessed with a roster filled with talented players that have helped the program.
One guy to point out has been 2026 guard Ki’Andrey Thomas. Thomas is an elite scorer and is averaging 19.9 points per game on 44% shooting. This includes a 50 point outing against Utopian Academy. This is not to say all Thomas can do is score, he also averages 3.9 steals per game and recorded a triple double against Hearts Academy. With stats like these, it is easy to see that Thomas is one of the most underrated players in Georgia.
Geronimo Holmes is another player that has positively impacted Notre Dame’s success this season. The 6’3 junior is averaging 14.8 points per game and leads the team with 6.8 rebounds per game this season.
C.J. Peoples completes the junior trifecta with 8.2 points and 2.0 steals per game. Providing a nice spark for the team defensively and offensively.
The Wolfhounds are a young team, lead by mostly juniors and sophomores, which makes the leadership of seniors Charles Buford (captain) and Dallas Williams all the more necessary. Buford has a reported offer from Bevill State College.
Not only are the Wolfhounds on top of their region, but they are only two wins away from having the most wins in school history!
Junior CJ Peoples says that “it feels amazing, especially knowing all the hard work we put in is paying off. The miles, sprints, and countless shots all coming together to allow us to have a historic season.
Notre Dame Academy begins region play tomorrow as they take on the 4 seeded Heart’s Academy. Which with a win, could create the perfect night for Wolfhound supporters by winning a Region Championship and breaking school history.
