2027 Prince Avenue Christian quarterback Ben Musser has decommitted from Virginia Tech per On3 Sports. Musser had been committed to the Hokies since August 1st. He holds a total of 15 offers from many top schools from around the country.

This decision comes following the firing of Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry three games into his fourth season as the head coach. He went 16-24 as a head coach and the Hokies are coming off a 16-24 loss to Old Dominion. Phillip Montegomery is stepping as the interim head coach for the school.

“A lot of thought and prayer went into this decision. With the coaching changes I felt like I needed to decommit. Nothing against Virginia Tech, I loved everything they did for me and they will always be special, but for the time being, my recruitment is open,” Musser told Score Atlanta’s Wesley Powell.

With his recruitment reopening, Musser will take a look at a few of the top schools throughout the country. According to Musser, Penn State, Vanderbilt, Purdue, and Georgia Tech have been among some of the schools to contact him since decommitting. Musser is working on taking official visits and has a few already set up with Penn State on September 27th and Appalachian State October 4th. He also visited Vanderbilt on Saturday.

Back in July, before he committed to Virginia Tech in August, he spoke highly of Vandy.

“The coaching staff, facilities, and community are great. I’m blessed to be offered by them.”

Musser and Prince Avenue have been dominant throughout the season. He totaled 335 yards and three touchdowns in a comeback win over Callaway in the Dave Hunter plus Corky Kell Classic. He threw three touchdowns in one quarter in a win over Johns Creek. Prince Avenue Christian is currently first in Score Atlanta’s Class A-3A Private rankings. The Wolverines are 4-1 with one loss coming to 4A powerhouse Blessed Trinity.

As for Musser, the 6-foot-2 signal caller utilizes his arm to make plays under the Friday night lights. His accuracy is one of the best attributes to his game and he can make throws into tight spaces. His arm strength also blows coaches away and he can make an argument as the best deep-ball thrower in the state. Prince Avenue has a long list of quarterbacks that have come through the program and Musser is certainly next on that list.
