With the 2025 college football season coming to an end this weekend the class of 2026 will join the college ranks with Georgia being one of the top states at producing talent in the ‘26 class. However, for fans who love keeping up with recruiting, it is time to get to know some of the 2028 prospects who are going to become upperclassmen in just a few months. Bryce Willingham, Kamari Butler, and Jamir Lee are three names to know on the recruiting scene in 2028. They each have taken their fair share of visits this season and here is what they had to take away from those visits.
Kamari Butler LB (Kennesaw Mountain)
Butler has been nothing short of incredible as a sophomore. He led not just all sophomores in the state of Georgia in tackles, but he led every single player in the state in total tackles in the regular season with 159 in just 10 games. Butler has garnered attention from some of the top schools in the country due to his high productivity and 6-3 frame. Butler highlighted three visits he took this offseason to UGA, Georgia Tech, and Vanderbilt.
He took a visit to Vanderbilt for the Commodores game against Auburn. Butler walked away thrilled with his experience in Nashville calling it his “favorite visit.”
“The fans and the campus were great,” Butler said regarding the SEC program.
As for the in-state programs, Butler has not been offered by either but is gaining serious interest. He visited the Yellow Jackets last Saturday for their marquee game against Pittsburgh and Butler loved the sold-out game in Atlanta calling the atmosphere “through the roof.” Funny enough the only negative that Butler could say about the game was the fact that Georgia Tech lost.
He visited Athens back in September in a matchup versus Austin Peay.
“They treated the recruits with the best hospitality,” Butler mentioned.
Butler and his Kennesaw Mountain squad missed the playoffs, but are filled with young stars which will only get better as they get older.
Bryce Willingham DB (North Atlanta)
Bryce Willingham has been one of if not the most decorated player in the state. The young corner already seems like he will finish his career as a top player in his class. The star from Fulton County is ready to take visits in order to find a new home and has got a head start on that process this season as he took a multitude of visits this season. He took the time to detail some of those visits with me to the likes of UGA, Florida, Florida State, Mississippi State, and Vanderbilt.
He made the short trip to Athens at the beginning of the season to see the Bulldogs in action. He enjoyed the experience and received an offer from Georgia over that weekend.
Willingham took a trip down to the swamp to see the Florida Gators take on the University of South Florida. Despite Florida getting upset, Willingham enjoyed Gainesville and seeing how the defense set up for gamedays.
Another SEC visit Willingham took was to Starkville to visit Mississippi State. He went down for State’s game against Texas that went to OT and Willingham loved every second of it.
“It was great and I got to meet all of the staff members.” He continued on about Mississippi State’s Cowbell tradition, “They were great, my ears were ringing, and since I play corner so I would love it on defense.”
I also asked him about the development of potential NFL draft pick Kelly Jones to which he responded, “I think they will produce a lot more players to be first round picks.”
However, Willingham cited Vanderbilt as his favorite visit and had a great response to why it was his favorite.
“Vanderbilt was great and they have been winning a lot of big time games this year. It was my favorite because the corners had three picks.”
Jamir Lee DL (Benedictine Military School)
Jamir Lee and his Benedictine squad will play in the state championship in a few days and Lee is definitely a major reason why the Military school made it so far. During his stellar sophomore year, the 3-star defensive lineman made his fair-share of visits to UGA, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Florida, and Texas A&M.
Lee journeyed to Atlanta to visit the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets versus the at the time top 15 ranked Clemson Tigers. Tech upset the Tigers and Lee got to rush the field and overall loved the visit and even got the chance to help take down the goal posts. He also made sure to visit the in-state Georgia Bulldogs for their game against Kentucky in an SEC clash. He called the Sandford Stadium atmosphere “loud and electric” as UGA went on to defeat Kentucky.
When Lee took the trip to historic SEC schools Florida and Texas A&M he took away nothing but good vibes and excitement, highlighting UF’s, “great fans, large stadium, and very traditional,” and A&M’s, “facilities, staff, fans, area, and really everything even though it was not a big game.”
Ole Miss is an up-and-coming program and Lee definitely sees the direction in the SEC school making its first playoff appearance this season and so he went to Oxford for the Rebels game against the Citadel. Lee said that his Ole Miss visit was his favorite of all the ones he took and he gave good reason as to why.
“It was fast paced even though it was a small game and you could tell they took everything serious. They had great fans, it was a nice area, and they treated me like royalty.” Specifically, Lee noted a few things that were different for Ole Miss that really set them over-the-top, “it provided a home feeling, I love coach Joyner (defensive line coach), the staff and the school were great.”
